Seongbuk-gu, Special Crackdown on Illegal Parking and Stopping in School Zones
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu is strengthening crackdowns on illegal parking and stopping within school zones starting in March, through joint inspections with related organizations and increased fines awareness campaigns, as the new school semester begins.
The district will first collaborate with the police station to conduct intensive crackdowns three times a week and joint patrols until March 19 to raise awareness so that children can walk safely. Additionally, it plans to promote traffic safety by installing banners informing about the increased fines for illegal parking and stopping within school zones, which will take effect from May 11.
Furthermore, a parking enforcement team consisting of 12 members will conduct focused crackdowns by patrolling areas with illegal parking in front of 29 elementary schools in Seongbuk-gu during school arrival and dismissal times.
Meanwhile, due to the revision of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree, from May 11, fines for illegal parking and stopping within school zones will increase from the current double rate (80,000 KRW for passenger cars, 90,000 KRW for vans) to triple (120,000 KRW for passenger cars, 130,000 KRW for vans). As this requires drivers’ special attention, the district announced that it will raise awareness of illegal parking and stopping in school zones through banner installations, promotional banners, and distribution of informational leaflets.
