Air Pollution Violators Caught at China Steel Hub
[Asia Economy Reporter Sung Ki-ho] It has been reported that four companies in Tangshan, China’s steel hub, were caught violating production restriction regulations and falsifying records.
On the 13th, Huang Lunqiu, Minister of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, announced that during an on-site inspection in Tangshan, Hebei Province on the 11th, it was confirmed that these four companies violated production reduction regulations aimed at reducing pollutant emissions during severe air pollution periods. The companies shared investigation information with authorities, manipulated data in advance, and deleted related records.
Minister Huang also stated that steel companies are major pollutant emitters and bear responsibility for reducing air pollution, emphasizing, “Companies must not pursue only their own interests while causing local residents to suffer from pollution.”
This inspection took place on the last day of China’s largest annual political event, the “Lianghui” (National People’s Congress and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference).
