Authorities: "No signs of abnormal blood clots after vaccination... Prompt action if detected"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The quarantine authorities announced that they will take swift action if any abnormal signs are detected domestically, in relation to the recent temporary suspension of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine administration in some European countries to investigate cases of 'blood clot formation.' However, they reiterated that no cases of blood clot reactions have been reported after AstraZeneca vaccination in Korea.
On the 13th, Baek Gyeong-taek, head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Task Force Situation Management Team, stated at a regular briefing regarding the AstraZeneca vaccination trends in Europe, "The task force is closely monitoring adverse reaction cases abroad and will promptly take action if similar cases or abnormal signs are found."
He explained, "Fortunately, Korea has not imported AstraZeneca vaccines with the same batch number reported in Europe, and among the approximately 580,000 vaccinated so far, there have been no reports of similar adverse reactions such as thromboembolism."
Baek added, "The WHO reported that over 335 million vaccinations have been administered worldwide without any deaths caused by the vaccine, while more than 2.6 million people have died from COVID-19. This underscores the importance of vaccination, which is recognized by the international community."
Earlier, in Austria, two women who received AstraZeneca vaccines with the same batch number (batch ABV 5300) in the same region around the same time experienced blood clot-related adverse reactions, and among them, a 49-year-old woman died from 'severe blood coagulation.'
