Dongdaemun-gu Launches Full-Scale Odor Reduction Project
Support for Installation of Rainwater Drains, Sewer Dredging, and Odor Reduction Facilities for Private Sewage Treatment Systems
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) has completed a sewage odor reduction task last year to provide residents with a pleasant living environment, and this year will actively implement an odor reduction project in the 'public and private sewage sectors.'
Based on the task results, the district plans to classify the odor levels of all sewage pipelines in Dongdaemun-gu into grades 1 to 5 and improve unpleasant areas (grade 5) to at least normal areas (grade 3).
To this end, the project will promote year-round dredging of rainwater inlets and sewage pipelines, support the installation of odor reduction facilities (air supply devices, sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms) in private sewage treatment facilities, and establish a real-time monitoring system (IOT) for odor reduction facilities in private septic tanks.
In addition, a sewage odor inspection team will be formed to jointly inspect sewage facilities and septic tanks in areas where sewage odors occur, prevent sewage odor generation, and take customized odor reduction measures according to the causes when complaints arise.
