[Asia Economy Reporters Naju-seok and Park Joon-yi] The unified opposition candidate for the Seoul mayoral by-election on April 7 will be decided through a public opinion poll. After conducting polls on April 17 and 18 regarding Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, and Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, the unified opposition candidate will be announced on the 19th, the final day for candidate registration with the Election Commission.
On the 11th, Jeong Yang-seok, Secretary-General of the People Power Party, and Lee Tae-gyu, Secretary-General of the People's Party, along with their respective candidate unification negotiation teams, met in Yeouido and agreed on the schedule for unifying the Seoul mayoral candidates.
Secretary-General Lee said, "I expressed that we would arrange the schedule respecting the agreement that the two candidates will select a unified candidate before the registration day," adding, "What we agreed on today is to announce the candidate on the 19th and conduct public opinion polls on the 17th and 18th."
Secretary-General Jeong said, "The negotiation teams seriously exchanged opinions regarding the number and format of debates for unification and the public opinion polls," adding, "For various unresolved issues, we decided to continue negotiations when we meet again tomorrow."
