At the press conference, Baek Yeon-yeon, director of Didim Disability Adult Human Rights Support Center, pointed out, "Our society ignores the actual inequalities and injustices women face, simply because women's status has improved compared to before."
She especially emphasized, "Women are the first to leave the workplace even during disasters such as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19)," adding, "This deepens economic status, ability, and gender discrimination, and the harsh socio-economic inequalities put vulnerable women at higher risk of violence."
In the following reading, it was stressed, "Our slogan remains 'Gender equality is the completion of democracy' as in previous years," and "For our society to continue developing sustainably, gender equality is the answer."
Jo Hyung-rae, head of the Gyeongnam branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, congratulated, saying, "We will continue to support and stand together with the voices demanding changes toward a gender-equal society in Gyeongnam."
