Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to Remove Distinction Between Fixed-term and Regular Teachers for Customized Welfare Benefits
Expansion of Welfare Benefits for Fixed-Term Teachers... Provision of Points for Childbirth and Family Welfare
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is expanding the scope of customized welfare benefits so that contract teachers can enjoy the same welfare benefits as regular teachers.
On the 4th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will expand the application of welfare points to contract teachers and provide family welfare and childbirth congratulatory welfare benefits.
This is to correct the discrimination of not applying some welfare items only to contract teachers and to boost the motivation of contract teachers.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education operates a customized welfare system where each affiliated public official can choose welfare benefits according to their preferences. It consists of basic welfare points (700 points) and variable welfare points (10 points per year of service, up to 300 points). Until now, contract teachers were only recognized for the service points among the variable welfare points, and family and childbirth welfare items were not applied. Contract teachers with less than one year of service were completely excluded from the customized welfare system.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education decided to expand the application of welfare points to additionally apply family welfare and childbirth congratulatory welfare items to contract teachers. Any contract teacher with more than six months of service will be able to receive welfare points on the same basis as regular teachers.
