According to the city on the 28th, UCLG is an international cooperation organization with over 1,000 cities from 140 countries as members. It is the only local government association recognized by the UN and holds a general assembly every three years.
Next year's UCLG General Assembly is scheduled to take place over five days and four nights in October at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) and the newly constructed Daejeon International Exhibition and Convention Center (DICC). The city expects around 3,000 to 5,000 city leaders and officials to attend during this period.
Prior to the UCLG General Assembly, the city plans to organize UCLG supporters in the first half of this year to promote the significance of hosting the assembly to citizens and hold the ‘UCLG General Assembly D-1 Year Commemoration Event’ in October.
In particular, the city explained that the D-1 Year Commemoration Event will be held as an international conference involving key figures such as the chairpersons of the UCLG Asia-Pacific Section and the Secretary-General of the UCLG World Secretariat.
The international conference will also include programs such as an international forum on the theme of ‘K-Quarantine’ and on-site inspections, providing an opportunity to promote the Daejeon region to key attendees of the assembly.
Additionally, the international conference will serve as a platform for on-site inspections and practical consultations on the preparation status of the UCLG General Assembly, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
