Hwasun-gun, First COVID-19 Vaccine Dose Administered... Nursing Hospital Director
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) began COVID-19 vaccinations on the 26th for 175 residents and workers at two nursing hospitals and three nursing facilities, starting with Pureunsol Nursing Hospital.
On this day, Jang Hong-ju (49), director of Pureunsol Nursing Hospital, was the first to receive the vaccine.
The county plans to set up a vaccination center at the Yongdae Gymnasium by next month to prepare for vaccinations of the general public starting in April.
Vaccinations will be carried out in three stages according to priority.
From February to March, the target groups include nursing hospitals, nursing facilities, high-risk medical institutions, COVID-19 dedicated hospitals, and 119 emergency medical teams. The county plans to complete vaccinations for about 4,600 people, including residents under 65 and workers at 15 nursing hospitals and 11 nursing facilities by next month.
From April to June, about 12,400 people, including residents and workers at elderly care facilities and welfare facilities, residents of nursing hospitals and nursing facilities aged 65 and older, and general residents aged 65 and older, will be vaccinated.
Starting in July, 26,700 people, accounting for 61% of the entire county population aged 18 to 64, will receive the vaccine.
The type of vaccine introduced and the timing of vaccination vary according to priority and may change depending on the vaccine supply plan of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
On this day, Governor Gu Chung-gon visited Pureunsol Nursing Hospital, where the first vaccination began, carefully overseeing the entire vaccination process and checking the county’s vaccination implementation plan.
Governor Gu observed all stages according to the movement of vaccine recipients, including ▲registration and waiting ▲medical examination and vaccine preparation ▲vaccination ▲observation for adverse reactions.
In a statement on the day, Governor Gu Chung-gon said, “Today, we have begun the ‘great journey of recovery and leap forward,’” adding, “We will complete vaccinations for 70% of all residents by December and establish herd immunity by the end of the year.”

He continued, “The active participation and cooperation of residents are essential to restore our precious daily lives and the local economy,” and warned, “If we become careless with quarantine measures after vaccination, it will trigger a resurgence and the ‘hope for recovery of daily life’ will become increasingly distant.”
