Gangnam Police Chief Suspended Pending Investigation Over Alleged Drinking on Duty
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Park Dong-ju, Chief of the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, who is under investigation by the National Police Agency's inspection team over allegations of drinking during working hours, has been placed on standby leave.
On the 25th, the National Police Agency placed Chief Park on standby leave and appointed Kim Hyung-ryul, head of the Investigation Structure Reform Team 2 at the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters, as the new Gangnam Police Station chief.
Chief Park is currently under investigation by the National Police Agency's inspection officer over allegations that he held drinking gatherings in the office during working hours while serving as the head of the investigative function department at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency from 2019 to 2020.
Among the allegations raised, it is also reported that Chief Park invited female police officers to the drinking gatherings. Chief Park is said to be denying these claims.
