6 More Confirmed Cases Related to Insurance Company Call Center in Gwangju... Total 2,038 Cases
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Six confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported related to a cluster infection at an insurance company call center located in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
According to Gwangju City on the 24th, as of 2 p.m. that day, six people were confirmed positive and classified as Gwangju cases 2033 to 2038.
The cumulative confirmed cases related to the insurance company call center are 31, with 1 case on the 22nd, 24 cases on the 23rd, and 6 cases on the 24th (as of 2 p.m.).
The confirmed cases occurred on the 4th and 5th floors of the Bitgoeul Customer Center building in Seo-gu, where the insurance company call center is located.
The quarantine authorities conducted comprehensive testing on employees and contacts on those floors.
Additionally, a testing order was issued to users of the cafeteria on the basement 1st floor.
Among the total 881 people tested, 27 were positive, 334 negative, and 520 are still being tested.
All 195 employees of the call center on the 4th floor, where many confirmed cases were found, have been placed under self-quarantine.
To prevent further spread, the quarantine authorities issued an administrative order requiring approximately 1,500 occupants of the Bitgoeul Customer Center to undergo COVID-19 testing.
Depending on the trend of additional confirmed cases, a second on-site diagnostic evaluation of the Bitgoeul Customer Center is expected to be conducted.

Kim Jong-hyo, Deputy Mayor of Gwangju City, stated, “Recently, there have been many asymptomatic confirmed cases, making early detection difficult and leading to cluster infections. In this insurance company call center cluster infection, the index patient had symptoms since the 17th but did not get tested immediately. If you have symptoms or suspect infection, please get tested immediately.”
