Increased Fire Spark Inflow in Forests During Jeongwol Daeboreum... Gyeongnam Province Strengthens Wildfire Prevention Measures
Concentrated Deployment of Wildfire Monitoring Resources Including Daljip Burning Event Site and Specialized Wildfire Prevention and Suppression Teams
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongsangnam-do Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters announced on the 24th that it will strengthen wildfire prevention activities and make every effort to prevent wildfires in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum.
Due to the recent continuous dry weather and strong winds, wildfires have occurred in Hadong-gun within the province, leading to the elevation of the national crisis alert for wildfire disasters to 'Caution' and the initiation of an emergency system.
Around Jeongwol Daeboreum, there is a high risk of wildfires due to the introduction of fire sources into forests from folk games, shamanistic rituals, burning of rice paddies and field ridges, and flying sky lanterns.
Accordingly, on the day of Jeongwol Daeboreum, the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters situation room will be extended until 10 p.m. to check the wildfire prevention response posture.
Responsible personnel will be assigned mainly at folk game event sites to strengthen patrols.
To enable rapid wildfire suppression, seven provincial wildfire suppression helicopters will be deployed to 2 to 3 city and county zones.
In addition, about 3,000 wildfire suppression personnel will be deployed to wildfire-prone areas, and all administrative personnel will be mobilized to respond to initial wildfire suppression in case of occurrence.
Meanwhile, 19 wildfires have occurred this year, about four times more than the same period last year.
Most were caused by burning activities for farming preparation and fires in areas adjacent to mountains and residential areas.
