At around 2:58 PM on the 20th, Mr. A (49), who was kayaking near Gangneung Port in Gangneung City, went missing, and the Coast Guard is conducting a search.
According to the East Sea Coast Guard, at around 7:40 AM that day, Mr. A, who set out from Gangneung Port on a 4-meter-long, 2.5-horsepower kayak, was reported missing by his party after losing contact.
The Coast Guard deployed a helicopter to search for the missing person and at around 4:49 PM, they discovered an object presumed to be a kayak about 8.7 km northeast of Gangneung Port.
Subsequently, a coastal rescue boat confirmed the scene, finding the kayak overturned and Mr. A not in sight.

The East Sea Coast Guard has deployed two patrol vessels, three rescue boats, two naval ships, two aircraft, a civilian drone search team, and a civilian marine rescue team to conduct searches around the kayak discovery area, continuing the search at night using patrol vessels.
