Cho Hyun-jae, Director of the Korea National Institute of Korean Studies, Appointed as Chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation
"Possessing Expertise in Sports and Skills in Administration, Organization, and Management"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 19th that Cho Hyun-jae, director of the Korea Institute of Korean Studies, has been appointed as the chairman of the Seoul Olympic Memorial National Sports Promotion Corporation (National Sports Promotion Corporation). The term is three years, until February 2024.
Newly appointed Director Cho graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Public Administration and earned a master's and doctoral degree from Seoul National University and the University of Bristol in the UK, respectively. Since 1983, he has worked at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as Director of the Sports for All Division, Director of the International Sports Division, Director of the Sports Bureau, Director of Planning and Coordination Office, and First Vice Minister. He has also served as Chairman of the Korea Sports Council National Sports Festival Committee, Chairman of the International Cultural Cooperation Support Center, Chairman of the Museum Construction Advisory Committee of the National Sports Promotion Corporation, Vice President of the Korea Football Association, and Director of the Korea Institute of Korean Studies. The Ministry explained, "Based on his expertise in the sports field and his administrative, organizational, and management capabilities, he is evaluated as the right person to lead the National Sports Promotion Corporation in an environment changing due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution as well as COVID-19."

This appointment was made pursuant to Article 26 of the Act on the Management of Public Institutions. After a public recruitment by the National Sports Promotion Corporation and a screening process by the Executive Recommendation Committee composed of figures from the sports, management, and legal sectors, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee recommended the appointment to President Moon Jae-in.
