View original image[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 18th that highly pathogenic AI of the H5N8 subtype was consecutively confirmed at two poultry farms: a duck farm in Jongo-ri, Goesan, Chungbuk, and a laying hen farm in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. With this, the number of highly pathogenic AI outbreaks at domestic poultry farms (including experience farms) has increased to 99 cases.
The headquarters will carry out preventive culling of poultry within a 1 km radius of the affected farms.
A representative of the headquarters stated, "It is more important than anything for farm owners to comply with basic biosecurity measures," adding, "They must thoroughly practice daily measures such as applying slaked lime, cleaning and disinfecting the farmyard, changing boots, and disinfecting the inside of the poultry houses."
