[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] "There is a saying, 'With every challenge comes opportunity.' Our goal is to lower the entry barriers to luxury hotels while introducing a variety of products and services in Yeouido, Seoul."
Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, the first Fairmont hotel in Korea, will officially open on the 24th. It is located in the hotel tower within the Parc.1 complex in Yeouido, Seoul. Fairmont is a luxury hotel brand under France's Accor, operating over 5,000 hotels and more than 10,000 food and beverage outlets across more than 110 countries worldwide. Established in 1907, there are currently over 80 hotels globally bearing the Fairmont brand. In Korea, Fairmont gained fame when the Canadian Quebec Fairmont Le Ch?teau Frontenac appeared in the drama "Goblin." Fairmont Ambassador Seoul also attracted attention as a filming location for the drama "Penthouse" even before its opening. It is the place where Logan Lee, a real estate tycoon in the drama, stays.
Fairmont Ambassador Seoul has 326 rooms and suites spread over 31 floors. Guests can enjoy views of Yeouido’s high-rise buildings and the Han River from the rooms. The hotel is conveniently connected to the subway, The Hyundai Seoul department store, and high-rise office towers. The Parc.1 complex, where Fairmont Ambassador Seoul is located, was designed by world-renowned architect Richard Rogers. It emphasizes Korean aesthetics, blending tradition and modernity. The hotel offers four dining venues, including the rooftop terrace restaurant Mariposa on the 29th floor and the signature rooftop bar M29, as well as facilities such as the Fairmont Gold Lounge, fitness center, indoor swimming pool, and spa. It also features a grand ballroom for large-scale events and 'Gallery 7' for family gatherings and business meetings.
Karl Gagnon, General Manager of Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, stated at the opening press conference on the 18th, "We plan to launch flexible and attractive products centered on a new concept of weekday hotel stays." He explained that they will introduce '24-hour and 30-hour stay packages' allowing guests to check in and out at their convenience without time restrictions. Gagnon added, "By offering innovative and customized package products on weekdays, which typically have lower occupancy rates, we aim to enable guests to enjoy shopping and entertainment at The Hyundai Seoul department store directly connected to the hotel, making the most of their time."
Various products targeting the Yeouido commercial district are also being planned. He emphasized, "The hotel's 29th-floor rooftop bar and terrace will provide the perfect place to unwind after a busy day, loosen your tie, and enjoy cocktails with friends or colleagues while admiring the beautiful Han River view." He continued, "We believe that even in the current situation where travel and leisure activities are restricted, customers want to enjoy their leisure time very cautiously. We think it is our role to create various promotions that demonstrate our sincerity to customers in these (COVID-19) circumstances."
Kim Ki-seop, CEO of Parc.1 Hotel Management, also sees both crisis and opportunity in the current hotel industry. He said, "In fact, the outlook for tourism businesses, including hotels, airlines, and travel agencies, is not bright for the time being," but emphasized, "Due to recent changes in tourism patterns, hotels are no longer just places to stay for vacations or business trips but have transformed into entertainment spaces and lifestyles enjoyed in daily life." Accordingly, he explained that hotels offering new lifestyles with unique cultures and values when new experiences are needed will be highly favored in the future, and Fairmont Ambassador Seoul will play such a role.
Kim said, "Rooms with panoramic views of the Han River and dynamic Seoul, deep culinary experiences using top-quality domestic ingredients themed around stories connecting nature and the city, will offer customers a newness they have never experienced before," adding, "While presenting global cuisine and services, we will also play a role in promoting our unique culture to the world." Fairmont Ambassador Seoul plans to lead K-food by utilizing domestic ingredients, recently launching premium domestic caviar as a flagship product.
Meanwhile, Accor Ambassador Korea plans to introduce four new hotels by 2025, including Fairmont Ambassador Seoul. Accor’s first hotel in Jeju, Mercure Ambassador Jeju, will open mid-year, and Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel & Serviced Residences is scheduled to open in the second half of the year.
