Ruling and opposition parties clash over children of former Minister Cho Kuk and former lawmaker Na Kyung-won at National Assembly Education Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] In the National Assembly's Education Committee, the ruling and opposition parties exchanged heated arguments over the children of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and former People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won.
On the 16th, People Power Party lawmaker Cho Kyung-tae pointed out allegations of forged certificates related to Cho's daughter during the Education Committee meeting. He referred to the fact that Cho's wife, Professor Jeong Gyeong-sim of Dongyang University, was convicted of admission fraud in the first trial, saying, "Shouldn't the Moon Jae-in administration, which advocates for clearing out deep-rooted evils, punish these corrupt forces?"
Another lawmaker from the same party, Jeong Gyeong-hee, said, "In other admission fraud cases similar to Cho's, the Ministry of Education has made decisions to cancel admissions," adding, "The Ministry of Education is making excuses and shielding Cho's daughter."
Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye explained, "The Ministry of Education is reviewing the measures to be taken," and "This is not a delay tactic but a process for careful and comprehensive judgment."
Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Cheong-rae said, "Since Cho was mentioned, I will talk about former lawmaker Na. There are allegations that Na's daughter had her grades for certain subjects significantly raised during her time at Sungshin Women's University."
He continued, "Although late, shouldn't the graduation certificate be revoked based on the Sungshin Women's University audit?" and "Isn't this clearly illegal?"
Open Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Min-jung also said, "Na's daughter’s grade correction request was made by the department, not the instructor," expressing doubts about whether the correction process was properly conducted.
