Yangju City, "A Comprehensive View of Local Ecological Environment"‥ First 'Urban Ecological Status Map' Created
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province is creating its first 'Urban Ecological Status Map' that allows a comprehensive view of the ecological environment across the entire city of Yangju.
According to the city on the 16th, the 'Urban Ecological Status Map (Biotope Map)' classifies the habitats of specific biological communities with spatial boundaries by ecological type and contains information on various environmental and ecological characteristics and values.
The project budget is a total of 550 million KRW, and completion is scheduled for July next year.
The project focuses on ▲investigating the natural environment throughout Yangju City ▲typification of biotopes (biological habitats) and establishment of evaluation criteria and systems ▲building a thematic Geographic Information System (GIS) database.
Key applications include ▲strategic environmental impact assessment in the natural ecosystem sector ▲development activity permit systems ▲selection of sites for parks and green spaces ▲basic data for rational designation of land use zones in urban management planning.

Considering that this is the first time the urban ecological status map is being created, the city plans to conduct field surveys of the ecological status throughout the jurisdiction, explore land use and management plans, and also prepare utilization plans for ecological information.
