Basquiat 'Warrior' to be Auctioned at Christie's Hong Kong

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] 'Warrior,' one of the representative works of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960?1988), will be auctioned in Hong Kong.
The global art auction house Christie's announced on the 15th that it will exclusively present Jean-Michel Basquiat's 'Warrior' at the Hong Kong auction on the 23rd of next month.
The estimated price of this work is 240 million to 320 million Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to approximately 34.2 billion to 45.6 billion Korean won. This is the highest price ever for a Western artwork offered in the Asian auction market.
The highest-priced Western artwork sold in the Asian market to date is 'Abstraktes Bild (649-2)' by German master Gerhard Richter, which was sold for 214.6 million Hong Kong dollars (about 30.4 billion Korean won) at Sotheby's Hong Kong live auction in October last year.

Basquiat's highest auction price to date is the 1982 painting 'Untitled,' which sold for 110.5 million US dollars (approximately 124.8 billion Korean won) at Sotheby's New York auction in May 2017. This was the first Basquiat work from the 1980s onward to surpass 100 million US dollars.
