What Are the Reasons Eunpyeong-gu's Regional Safety Index Ranks High Among Seoul's Districts?
Achieved Top 1 and 2 Grades in 6 Indicators Through Full Efforts for Regional Safety... Selected as Excellent Grade in Last Year's Ministry of the Interior and Safety Disaster Management Evaluation and Received Outstanding Ratings in Various Disaster Safety Management Fields
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it achieved 1st or 2nd grade in all six indicators in the '2020 National Local Government Regional Safety Index' statistics conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, ranking among the top districts in Seoul.
The Regional Safety Index is an index that quantifies safety levels by classifying six indicators?traffic, fire, crime, daily safety, suicide, and infectious diseases?into grades 1 to 5 using various safety-related statistics from each local government, compiled annually in December by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The closer to grade 1, the safer the area is considered.
Due to the many mountainous areas such as Bukhansan within the region, Eunpyeong-gu conducted focused surveillance and inspections mainly in wildfire-prone areas and implemented proactive quarantine measures to respond to COVID-19. As a result of these swift responses to prevent social disasters, the fire and infectious disease indicators, which had remained at grade 3 until last year, were raised to grade 2.
Additionally, Eunpyeong-gu received excellent evaluations in various disaster safety management fields, including being selected as 'Excellent' in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2020 Local Government Disaster Management Evaluation' last year.
