On the afternoon of the 10th, around 3 PM, a 3-year-old girl was found dead in a villa in Gumi. The deceased girl was discovered by her grandmother, who testified that she went to her daughter's house after the landlord requested, "We cannot reach (the biological mother). Please vacate the house," and found her granddaughter in an advanced state of decomposition.
The police, upon receiving the report, urgently arrested the biological mother in her 20s, Ms. A, who had been living with the deceased girl, and on the 12th, she was detained on suspicion of murder.
According to the police on the 14th, Ms. A stated during the investigation, "I left the child alone in the villa because it was difficult to raise her after separating from the biological father a long time ago."
Police investigations revealed that Ms. A had pretended to live with the child until the 3-year-old was found dead. It was also confirmed that Ms. A had been receiving 200,000 won monthly in child-rearing and child allowance payments from the local government until recently.
Ms. A moved six months ago and is reported to have a child with another man.
The police are focusing their investigation on the cause and timing of the infant's death and whether abuse occurred, targeting Ms. A.
The National Forensic Service conducted an autopsy on the deceased girl on the 11th to determine the exact cause of death, with results expected between the 18th and 21st.
