Seoul National University Regular Admission Cutoff Top Rank: Agricultural Economics and Pre-Medicine Departments
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The number of additional regular admission acceptances at Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University decreased by 63 compared to last year.
According to Jongno Academy Haneul Education on the 12th, the first round of additional regular admission acceptances totaled 609 across three universities: ▲Seoul National University (57) ▲Korea University (195) ▲Yonsei University (357).
The first round additional acceptance rate at Seoul National University is 7%
The ratio of additional acceptances to the regular admission quota is ▲Seoul National University 7.1% ▲Korea University 20.8% ▲Yonsei University 25.2%. By school, Seoul National University decreased by 10, Korea University by 12, and Yonsei University by 41 compared to last year.
In the case of Seoul National University’s Group A, some students withdrew due to overlapping acceptance with medical fields in Groups B and C. Yonsei University (Group B) and Korea University (Group B) had additional acceptances as students moved after overlapping acceptance with Seoul National University.
The decrease in the number of additional acceptances compared to the previous year is attributed to a decline in the school-age population, reducing the pool of top-tier applicants, and some high scorers on the CSAT being admitted through early admissions, resulting in fewer high scorers in the regular admissions.
The departments with the largest first-round additional acceptances at Seoul National University were ▲Nursing (quota 13) with 9 students ▲Dentistry (quota 6) with 4 students ▲Electrical and Computer Engineering (quota 47) with 4 students ▲Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Physical Education each with 3 students.
At Yonsei University, the Business Administration department had 104 first-round additional acceptances, reaching 92.0% of its quota (113). Only 9 out of 113 initially registered. The Economics department (quota 86) had 33 additional acceptances (38.4%). The Pre-Medicine department had 10 additional acceptances, 35.7% of its quota. In the natural sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (quota 80) had 34, and Computer Science (quota 34) had 22 additional acceptances.
At Korea University, there were 19 additional acceptances in Business Administration and 8 in Economics. However, the College of Medicine had no first-round additional acceptances. In the natural sciences, Chemical and Biological Engineering had 14, Electrical and Electronic Engineering 12, and Computer Science (natural sciences) 9 additional acceptances.

The second round of additional acceptance announcements will be after 2 PM on the 16th, with registration by 4 PM on the 17th. View original imageIn Seoul National University’s humanities division, the department with the highest regular admission cutoff for the 2021 academic year was the Department of Agricultural Economics and Social Studies. Based on the CSAT standardized score converted to a 600-point university scale, the cutoff was 406.0 points, estimated to be about 293 points in raw score. This was 0.5 points higher than the traditionally high cutoff for the Business Administration department.
This unexpected rise in cutoff scores was due to humanities students applying more conservatively to safer options. The competition ratio was lowest in the Business School at 2.26:1, while Consumer Studies had 7.80:1, and Agricultural Economics and Social Studies had 3.83:1.
In Seoul National University’s natural sciences division, the highest initial acceptance cutoff was clearly the Pre-Medicine department (411.0), followed by Dentistry (408.6), and then Computer Engineering (404.1). With increasing preference for ICT fields such as artificial intelligence, the popularity of the Computer Engineering department in engineering is rising.
