Korea-US Director-General Level Video Conference, Discussions on Ministerial and High-Level Exchanges
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 9th that Ko Yoon-joo, Director General of the North American Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mark Naeper, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia and the Pacific, held a video consultation on the evening of the 8th to discuss key issues of interest between South Korea and the United States.
This video consultation was held to review current issues between the two countries following the inauguration of the Joe Biden administration in the United States.
During the consultation, both sides reportedly discussed plans to promote high-level exchanges between the two countries, including the appointment of Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong and communication between the foreign ministers of South Korea and the United States.
Consultations between the directors general of South Korea and the United States have been regularly held via video and telephone since May last year to maintain close practical communication between the two countries amid restrictions on face-to-face meetings due to COVID-19.
