Songpa-gu Opens Public Daycare Centers in Seokchon-dong (No. 101) and Samjeon-dong (No. 102)...The Most in Seoul Autonomous Districts
Remodeling After Purchasing Private Daycare Centers... Enhancing Efficiency by Reducing Construction Costs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) opened two additional public daycare centers on the 1st.
These are the 101st and 102nd public daycare centers opened by the district.
Since the launch of the 7th local government, the district has been focusing on strengthening the public nature of childcare and expanding public daycare centers to become a reliable support for families with infants and toddlers.
By the end of last year, the district achieved 100 public daycare centers, making it the district with the most public daycare centers among Seoul's autonomous districts.
The two newly opened centers are private daycare centers located in Seokchon-dong and Samjeon-dong, each with four above-ground floors. They were purchased, remodeled, and refurbished to meet national and public standards before being put into operation.
Seokchon Saessak Daycare Center has a total floor area of 376㎡ and a capacity of 70 children, while Samjeon Haneul Daycare Center has a total floor area of 458.26㎡ and a capacity of 75 children.
The district expects that opening public daycare centers in Seokchon-dong and Samjeon-dong, areas with many multi-family and general houses and relatively weak childcare infrastructure, will help resolve the shortage of public childcare facilities.
In particular, to expand public daycare centers, the district actively purchases private childcare facilities with a capacity of 70 or more children, reducing construction costs to improve efficiency, and ensures employment stability and continuity of childcare by inheriting existing private daycare teachers.
This year, the district plans to open three additional centers, including Songpa Dundeun Daycare Center, and aims to reach 110 public daycare centers by 2022.

Mayor Park Seong-su stated, “Last year, Songpa-gu demonstrated that it is a ‘child-friendly city’ by showing natural population growth with more births than deaths,” adding, “This year, we will continue to focus on both quantitative growth and qualitative improvement of public daycare centers to make Songpa a convenient place to raise children and a happy home for families.”
