Announcement of 2021 Seoul Post-High School Assignment Results... 4,625 Fewer Students Than Last Year
Decrease of 4,625 Students Compared to Last Year Due to Declining School-Age Population
Enrollment and Registration Must Be Completed at Assigned Schools on March 3-4
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will announce the results of the 2021 academic year Superintendent-selected late high school freshman assignments on the 3rd at 10 a.m.
The number of students expected to enter Superintendent-selected late high schools in the Seoul area for the 2021 academic year is 45,983 across 205 schools, a decrease of 4,625 compared to the previous year. This decline is due to a decrease in the school-age population as well as fewer overlapping applicants to International High Schools, Foreign Language High Schools, and Autonomous Private High Schools.
By category, there are ▲ general applicants 45,160 (including 1,100 applicants for science-focused classes) ▲ 622 special admissions for sports talents, 1 special admission within quota ▲ 200 outside quota (children of veterans, physically disabled, qualified special admissions).
Among the 54,345 applicants for late high school freshmen, 45,983 were assigned, excluding 862 students. The 862 include late high school unsuccessful applicants (120), successful applicants who applied to Autonomous Private High Schools, Foreign Language High Schools, and International High Schools simultaneously (7,986), and successful applicants for arts and sports-focused classes (256).
There are also special assignment cases within the general applicants. Children of school staff are assigned to different schools from their parents, and twins are assigned either to the same or different schools according to their preference. Students involved in school violence are assigned to different schools, and students who are victims of domestic violence or sexual violence are assigned to schools suited to their individual circumstances for personal protection. Children of disabled parents or physically disabled students are assigned to nearby schools considering commuting convenience.
The Office of Education lowered the maximum number of students per class to about 27 to reduce disparities in student numbers between schools during the late high school assignment process. Last year, it was 28.
Starting this year, the Office of Education plans to notify students and parents of assignment results via mobile phone messages. Freshmen will receive assignment notices from their original middle schools where they applied or from the local education support office, and must report and register at the assigned high school between the 3rd and 4th.
An assignment system before enrollment will also operate for cases where residence changes occur after assignment. Students who have moved to a different school district outside the assigned school's district or transferred from other cities or provinces to Seoul after the Superintendent-selected late high school application date can be reassigned before registering at the assigned school by applying through HiInfo on the 4th or 5th.
