Mercedes-Benz Challenges 77.6 Billion KRW Fine by Ministry of Environment... Administrative Lawsuit Filed
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Mercedes-Benz Korea (hereinafter Mercedes-Benz), which was fined 77.6 billion KRW for illegal manipulation of exhaust emissions, has filed an appeal lawsuit with the court.
According to the legal community on the 1st, Mercedes-Benz filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Administrative Court in October last year, requesting the cancellation of the fine imposed by the Minister of Environment. This case has been assigned to Judge Lee Jeong-min of the Administrative Division 2 of the Seoul Administrative Court.
Previously, it was revealed that Mercedes-Benz illegally manipulated exhaust emissions in diesel vehicles sold domestically. From 2012 to 2018, diesel vehicles sold had an illegal manipulation program installed that reduced the amount of urea used in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system during actual driving compared to certification tests, and disabled the operation of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment imposed a fine of 77.6 billion KRW on Mercedes-Benz and reported the case to the prosecution. Mercedes-Benz's fine is the largest ever imposed by the Ministry of Environment for diesel vehicle emission manipulation.
