Chungnam to Establish Fisheries Food Cluster...Fostering Future Food Industry
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is promoting the establishment of a seafood food cluster. The cluster is expected to play a role in fostering the seafood food industry as a future regional food source.
The province announced on the 27th that it plans to create a "Chungnam-type seafood food cluster" with a total project cost of 120 billion KRW.
The seafood food cluster is a collective that concentrates related companies, research institutes, universities, and corporate support facilities in one area to generate synergy through mutual linkage. It is being established to prepare future growth strategies such as high value-added and advanced seafood products.
The province will select the final project site after feasibility studies and consultations with cities and counties, complete administrative procedures by 2023, and finish design and construction from 2024 to 2026.
The site covers an area of 29,700㎡, and the main facilities planned within the site include ▲ Internet of Things (IoT) smart logistics warehouse ▲ Digital Twin processing facility ▲ Seafood food research and development (R&D) center ▲ Startup and incubation center ▲ Permanent exhibition and sales hall ▲ Trade support center ▲ Solar power generation facility.
The province plans for the seafood food cluster to serve as a control tower supporting the entire process from seafood production to processing, distribution, and export as a package. It also intends to establish an internationally rigorous quality, hygiene, and standard management system, including mandatory HACCP.
Through this, the province aims to raise the local seafood supply rate for school meals from about 6% last year to 60% by 2026, and to expand corporate supply and overseas export scale.
