BigTech to Develop 'Military-Exclusive LiDAR Power Transfer Technology'
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Defense company BigTech has signed a business agreement with SpinTech Co., Ltd. (CEO Choi Hyun-yong) on 'military-exclusive LiDAR and laser power transmission technology.'
According to BigTech on the 27th, SpinTech, a specialized company in the field of optical power transmission, was founded within the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and developed and commercialized LiDAR technology based on KETI's core technology. LiDAR is a device that emits laser pulses and receives the light reflected back from surrounding objects to measure the distance to the objects, thereby precisely mapping the surroundings.
Through this agreement, BigTech plans to develop weapon systems in the field of 'military-exclusive LiDAR and laser power transmission' to prepare for future warfare environments.
The military is currently reviewing preliminary research on autonomous driving technology for vehicles capable of autonomous driving within military bases such as air force airfields. Autonomous driving technology is expected to lead to the development of unmanned transport vehicles that supply various materials in future battlefields.
