Daegu City Implements Total Quota System for 'Public Memorial Hall' Reservations During Lunar New Year... Operates 'Online Ancestral Rites'
1000 People for One-Day Visit, Time Limited to 20 Minutes
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 25th that it will operate the public columbarium normally during this Lunar New Year holiday period, but to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it will disperse visitors and mourners through a pre-visitation period, a total reservation quota system, and the operation of an online (cyber) memorial hall.
During last year's Chuseok holiday, due to COVID-19 prevention measures, the number of visitors to the Daegu public columbarium (located in Jicheon-myeon, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongbuk) was about one-tenth of other years, with 2,300 households visiting (500 households on Chuseok day).
Daegu City will also operate a pre-visitation period (January 25 to February 10) during this Lunar New Year holiday to prevent visitors from gathering all at once on Lunar New Year’s Day and the following day.
Additionally, to enable social distancing, the number of visitors per day will be limited to under 1,000, and visitation time will be restricted to 20 minutes under a total reservation quota system. The memorial hall’s ritual room and lounge will be closed, and food consumption is prohibited.
For citizens who prefer non-face-to-face memorial services, a pre-application period (January 25 to February 10) will be operated to support online (cyber) ancestral rites from home. Online ancestral rites can be applied for through the 'e-Haneul Funeral Information System,' established by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which allows setting up an online ritual table and offering flowers and incense.
