"Reducing Livelihood Burden and Testing" Busan City, 'Vulnerable Workers' Self-Quarantine Income Loss Compensation
Support of 230,000 KRW per Person for Diagnostic Tests for Vulnerable Non-Regular Workers in Busan
Workers Under 40 Hours per Week, Daily Workers, Special Workers, Non-Regular Caregivers
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City is stepping up to support 'vulnerable workers' who cannot voluntarily undergo COVID-19 testing due to livelihood concerns, even if they have symptoms.
On the 25th, Busan City announced a plan to compensate income losses caused by self-quarantine until the test results are notified after COVID-19 testing for short-time workers working less than 40 hours per week, daily workers, special-type workers, and non-regular care workers.
The support scale is 2,800 people, providing a total of 230,000 KRW per person, including 30,000 KRW for medical expenses and 200,000 KRW for compensation.
The eligibility requirements are ▲registered as a resident in Busan City from before January 1, 2021, until the time the support fund is paid, ▲voluntarily underwent COVID-19 testing after January 1, 2021, and ▲self-quarantined until the test result (negative) was notified.
It is expected that the income loss compensation will reduce the livelihood burden on vulnerable workers and encourage active participation in COVID-19 testing, thereby helping to prevent the spread of infection.
The support period starts from February 1 until the budget is exhausted, and applications will be processed non-face-to-face to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Applicants should submit the application documents by mail to the Busan City Human Rights and Labor Policy Office. The city plans to establish an online application system and start accepting applications through the website from the 15th of next month.
