Yeosu City "Let's Reduce Carbon in Fishing Vessel Industry" Distribution of Eco-Friendly Equipment
Replacement of Aging Engines, Fishing Vessel Safety, Welfare, and Equipment Support
Nearshore Fishery License Holders Must Apply by the 15th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 22nd that it has taken steps to improve fisheries management and prevent marine accidents by distributing eco-friendly energy-saving equipment effective in reducing fuel costs for fishing households, increasing production efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions.
The city is investing 800 million KRW this year to promote the "Eco-friendly Energy-saving Equipment Distribution Project" in the fishing vessel sector.
The supported items include eco-friendly energy-saving LED lights, fuel-saving devices, replacement of old engines, and equipment/facilities for fishing vessel safety and welfare (such as GPS plotters, fish finders, radar, and hauling machines).
Applicants must be fishermen licensed under Article 41 of the Fisheries Act for coastal fisheries (offshore, coastal, or designated areas) and can receive support covering 50-60% of the cost for purchasing safety equipment.
Applications can be submitted to the city's Fisheries Management Division or the town, township, and neighborhood community centers by the 15th of next month.
However, if within five years from the delivery date of the goods the equipment is sold, used for purposes contrary to the grant, transferred, exchanged, rented, or used as collateral, the subsidy must be returned.
A city official stated, "We will continue to expand the distribution project of eco-friendly energy-saving equipment to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the fishing vessel sector, improve fisheries management, prevent marine accidents, and establish a stable fishing operation base."
