[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector has praised Kwon Chil-seung, a member of the Democratic Party nominated as the Minister of SMEs and Startups, as "the right person to lead the swift crisis recovery and resurgence of SMEs and small business owners."
The Korea Federation of SMEs stated in a press release on the 20th, "Candidate Kwon understands the difficulties faced by SMEs and small business owners better than anyone else."
Kwon has served as a member of the National Assembly's Industry, Trade, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee, chairman of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on SMEs, and vice chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee.
He has also introduced various bills aimed at ▲ eradicating unfair trade practices in delivery prices to promote win-win cooperation between large and small businesses ▲ strengthening support for SME exports and startups ▲ simplifying the subscription process for the Yellow Umbrella Mutual Aid for small enterprises and small business owners ▲ expanding support for companies returning to Korea from overseas ▲ and fostering innovative growth for SMEs and mid-sized companies.
In recognition of these contributions, he was selected as an Outstanding Support Institution for SMEs (Member of the National Assembly) by the Korea Federation of SMEs in 2019.
The Korea Federation of SMEs evaluated Candidate Kwon as having "contributed to resolving field difficulties and formulating support policies for SMEs and small business owners with exceptional passion and interest."
They added, "If appointed as the Minister of SMEs and Startups after the National Assembly confirmation hearing, we urge him to take the lead in providing full support so that SMEs and small business owners affected by COVID-19 can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
