The Counterattack of 'Naver Certificate'... Surpasses 3 Million Issuances
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver, a latecomer in the certificate business, has launched a counterattack to become the 'National Certificate.'
According to Naver on the 20th, the number of issued 'Naver Certificates' has surpassed 3 million. This represents a 50% growth in just one month. In December last year, the number of issued Naver Certificates was 2 million. Currently, Naver Certificate partner institutions include over 50 organizations such as the National Pension Service, Civil Defense Education, Cheongyak Home, and Korea Expressway Corporation.
With the legal status of the public certificate abolished, competition among private certificates has intensified, and the rivalry between Naver and Kakao is in full swing. Although Naver Certificate seemed to falter when only Kakao was selected as the final operator for the government's 'pilot project to expand electronic signatures in the public sector,' including year-end tax settlement services, it has recently been aggressively expanding its business. Naver has set a goal to increase the usage and issuance of certificates tenfold this year.
On the morning of the same day, Naver signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sejong Cyber University to build a smart campus. The main content is to introduce Naver Certificate and mobile student ID at Sejong Cyber University.
Starting with the application of Naver Certificate at Seoul Cyber University in December last year, Naver is increasing its influence in the education sector. From next month, it plans to provide services allowing multiple domestic universities such as Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Konyang Cyber University, and Global Cyber University to adopt Naver Certificate as a means of identity verification.
Naver will also launch a mobile student ID service that can be used in various educational institutions in March. The 'Naver Student ID' serves as a means to prove one's identity along with the Naver Certificate and qualification services. Students only need their smartphones at moments when a student ID is required, such as accessing campus facilities. Naver plans to expand the business to educational institutions with high demand for mobile student IDs, such as universities and high schools.
