Hyundai Motor Company Expands Operation of 'Mobile Electric Vehicle Charging Service'
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Company announced that it will expand the operation of its 'Mobile Charging Service' starting from the 13th to enhance electric vehicle customer satisfaction.
Hyundai plans to increase the number of free charging service provisions, which were previously offered up to 4 times a year for a maximum of 5 years, to 10 times a year to improve convenience for electric vehicle users.
Additionally, in Jeju Island, where electric vehicle distribution such as rental cars is active, Hyundai will operate additional specialized services. If charging is difficult due to a charging station malfunction in Jeju Island, customers can request the 'Mobile Charging Service,' which will significantly increase the charging capacity from the existing 7kWh to up to 20kWh (approximately 120km driving range, charging time about 45 minutes).
Hyundai's 'Mobile Charging Service' is a service where, if an electric vehicle runs out of charge or it is difficult to move to a charging station during operation, a dedicated staff member visits the customer at the requested time and place to charge the vehicle battery free of charge. Hyundai expects that the expanded operation of this service will help alleviate customers' anxiety about charging their electric vehicles.
The service provides a charging amount that allows driving about 44km per use (7kWh, charging time about 15 minutes). It can be requested by pressing the 'Blue Link SOS' button on the rearview mirror or through Hyundai's customer center or the mobile app 'MyHyundai.'
Hyundai began a pilot operation of the 'Mobile Charging Service' in Jeju Island in 2016 and expanded the service nationwide in 2017. In 2018, the service was revamped to add features such as data monitoring-based call functions and vehicle inspection support during charging.
