The Daegu Community Chest of Korea set a target amount of 8.49 billion KRW on December 1 last year to start the 'Hope 2021 Sharing Campaign' and, as of January 11, 42 days later, raised 8.67 billion KRW, achieving a Love Temperature of 100 degrees.
At the start of the campaign, the prevailing opinion was that reaching the fundraising goal would be difficult due to the impact of COVID-19, but citizens and companies, thinking that the lives of marginalized neighbors would be even harder, united to raise the Love Temperature.
On the first day of the campaign, the Korea Appraisal Board donated 500 million KRW, raising the Love Temperature by 5.9 degrees, and the SL Seobong Foundation continued the spirit of sharing by donating about 430 million KRW.
Local companies also raised the Love Temperature with one heart. Hwaseong Industrial Co., Ltd. increased its donation from 100 million KRW last year to 200 million KRW this year, and DGB Financial Group, Samik THK, Heesung Electronics, Servo, Taesung Electric, Peace Big Tree Welfare Foundation, E-World, E-Land Retail Dong-A Department Store, among others, continued to practice love by donating more than 100 million KRW this year as well.
Additionally, warm sharing came from various groups: piggy banks of kindergarten children who collected coins with their small hands, the small sincerity of a cleaning lady in a building, pocket money saved by elders for their grandchildren, and regular donations through the Good Daegu Campaign. The Tall Uncle (Kidar Ajussi) moved the public nationwide with his final donation, concluding a promise he had kept for about 10 years.
As of the 11th, the amount raised was about 8.675 billion KRW (Love Temperature 102.2 degrees). Although the total amount raised was about 400 million KRW less than the 9.075 billion KRW (90.6 degrees) raised during the same period last year, the 100-degree mark was reached five days earlier than last year.
The Daegu Community Chest of Korea, considering the difficult economic situation due to COVID-19, shortened the campaign period by 10 days compared to last year and lowered the target amount from 10.02 billion KRW to 8.49 billion KRW.
Looking at the details, individual donations amounted to about 3.69 billion KRW, accounting for 42% of the total donations. This is an increase of about 510 million KRW compared to the same period last year. About 12,600 donors participated in sharing through small contributions, playing a significant role in raising the Love Temperature. Notably, four new Honor Society members were born during the campaign period.
Corporate donations, which accounted for 58% of the total donations, amounted to about 4.99 billion KRW, a decrease of about 900 million KRW compared to last year.
Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin said, "Achieving a Love Temperature of 100 degrees despite the difficult conditions caused by COVID-19 is thanks to the greatness of Daegu citizens who think of the community first in times of crisis," and added, "I sincerely thank each and every company and individual donor who participated in the warm practice of loving neighbors."
