EU Approves Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine (Update)
Second Vaccine Inoculation Scheduled to Begin Following Pfizer
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The European Union (EU) Commission on the 6th (local time) approved the conditional sale of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine developed by the U.S. pharmaceutical company Moderna.
The EU Commission made the official approval decision immediately after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended conditional approval for the Moderna vaccine. Following the EU Commission's decision on this day, each member state can now begin administering the Moderna vaccine.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, stated in a press release, "We will supply more COVID-19 vaccines for Europeans."
The EU Commission announced that the Moderna vaccine will be supplied between the first and third quarters of this year.
