Hong Ik-pyo Appointed as New Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Hong Ik-pyo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee.
On the 4th, the Democratic Party decided this at the Supreme Council meeting as a follow-up personnel move for Representative Han Jeong-ae, who was nominated as the Minister of Environment.
Hong, a three-term lawmaker, is expected to concurrently serve as the head of the Democratic Research Institute, the party's think tank, for the time being.
Hong, who comes from academia and previously worked as a senior researcher at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, served as a policy advisor at the Ministry of Unification before being elected as a member of the National Assembly representing Seongdong-gu Eul district in Seoul in the 19th general election.

He has held positions such as senior deputy chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, deputy floor leader, and chief spokesperson. He has led various task forces (TF) on key issues including the humidifier disinfectant disaster investigation, virtual currency measures, and electricity bill improvements, establishing himself as a policy expert within the party. In August last year, he was in charge of policy coordination for the Lee Nak-yeon campaign during the party convention.
