View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Koji Domita, the Japanese Ambassador to Korea who has been appointed as Ambassador to the United States, stated in his final New Year's message before leaving for the U.S. that he will make further efforts to improve Korea-Japan relations.
In the New Year's message posted on the homepage on the 1st, Ambassador Domita said, "There have been various challenges between Korea and Japan," and emphasized, "Despite the difficult path, the two countries have steadily overcome numerous challenges and have dramatically developed bilateral relations."
He also mentioned that challenges should be addressed with optimism and patience. He stated, "Looking back on the circumstances so far, as we welcome the Year of the Ox, I am newly resolved to tackle the challenges with optimism and patience," and added, "This year, dialogues related to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which were postponed last year, are scheduled. I hope that this sporting event will further activate exchanges between the two countries."
He also added remarks about the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Ambassador Domita said, "With the RCEP agreement reached last year, Korea-Japan relations will deepen further."
Ambassador Domita was appointed as the Japanese Ambassador to Korea in December 2019. At the end of last year, he was officially appointed as Ambassador to the United States, and Koichi Aiboshi, the Japanese Ambassador to Israel, has been nominated as his successor.
