Goyang City Reports Total of 21 Confirmed Cases by 6 PM... 9 Cases Clustered in Nursing Hospital
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] As of 6 p.m. on the 2nd, the nationwide confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) totaled 546, with a new cluster infection at a nursing hospital in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, resulting in a total of 21 confirmed cases.
On the 2nd, Goyang City announced that 9 people, including residents and staff, tested positive for COVID-19 at Gangbuk Seongsim Nursing Hospital in Hwajeong-dong, Deogyang-gu.
Earlier, on the 1st, Goyang City reported that A, an employee working at this hospital, tested positive in a preemptive COVID-19 screening for local nursing facility workers. Following A's confirmation, a full investigation was conducted targeting 300 people, including 195 residents and 105 staff and caregivers, resulting in 8 additional confirmed cases: 3 residents and 5 staff and caregivers.
All confirmed cases occurred on the 6th floor of the hospital, which is currently under cohort isolation. Health authorities plan to conduct a second full screening on the 3rd.
A, the first confirmed case at this hospital, was found to have been infected through contact with a family member who had previously tested positive and a confirmed case in Seoul. Investigations are ongoing for 4 others whose infection routes have not yet been identified.

Additionally, on the 2nd, one Goyang citizen (resident of Deogyang-gu) tested positive at the Eunpyeong District Public Health Center in Seoul. As of 6 p.m. that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Goyang citizens was 1,493.
