[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] Following the Seoul Eastern Detention Center, an inmate who tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) also died at the Seoul Detention Center located in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
According to correctional authorities on the 31st, among the two inmates who tested positive at the Seoul Detention Center, a man in his 30s, Mr. A, died that morning. It is known that Mr. A had been suffering from hypertension.
A Ministry of Justice official stated, "We are currently investigating the detailed circumstances."
At the Seoul Detention Center, after one released inmate tested positive on the 20th, diagnostic tests were conducted on contacts, confirming that two inmates, including Mr. A, were infected. Accordingly, the detention center began mass testing of approximately 3,100 inmates and staff.
