According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 30th, two individuals in their 80s and 20s were confirmed to be infected with the UK-origin variant virus. This brings the total number of confirmed cases of the UK-origin variant virus in South Korea to five. Previously, on the 22nd, samples collected from a family who returned from London, UK, revealed the variant virus in three individuals.

Among the two newly confirmed variant virus infection cases, one is an 80-year-old male who was diagnosed 'posthumously' at the National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital, and the other is a woman in her 20s who entered the country via the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the UK. The CDCH announced that they plan to provide detailed explanations about the additional cases during the briefing held later that afternoon.
