Ministry of Education and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity Select 100 Outstanding Young Talents
Selected Annually for 20 Years Since 2001
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity announced on the 30th that they selected 100 outstanding young talents from various fields and awarded them the Minister's Award.
The '2020 Korea Talent Award' is a talent selection program that discovers outstanding young talents demonstrating capabilities in various areas and supports their growth as the future pillars of the nation. It began in 2001 as the 'Outstanding Talent Award Leading the 21st Century' and has been held annually for 20 years. To date, approximately 2,000 outstanding talents have been identified.
This year's major awardees include Hwang Sun-woo, a 2nd-year student at Seoul Physical Education High School, who set the all-time best record for his age group in the 100m and 200m freestyle swimming events; Park Do-hyun, a 2nd-year high school student at Gangwon Myeongjin School, who, despite having a level 1 visual impairment, competed and achieved results in various competitions including the National Disabled Winter Sports Festival; Cho Hye-rin, a graduate of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, who grew through exchanges with foreign astrophysics researchers; Yang Jin-su (Department of Traditional Arts, Chung-Ang University), recognized for talents through awards in various Korean traditional music competitions; and Song Hye-kyo, a high school equivalency exam graduate who has worked to establish policies supporting out-of-school youth.
