KT GiGA Genie, 63% Increase in Conversations with Expanded Parenting and Exercise Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] This year, consumption of childcare (kids content), games, and exercise content through KT's artificial intelligence (AI) speaker 'Giga Genie' has significantly increased. As the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) led to more time spent at home, overall usage of AI speakers also rose by 63%.
On the 30th, KT announced the big data report "2020 Giga Genie Speech Ranking," which compiles conversations of Giga Genie users from January to November this year. Giga Genie is KT's AI speaker with the largest domestic subscriber base of over 2.7 million users.
First, with the overall increase in AI speaker usage due to COVID-19, the average number of utterances to Giga Genie rose by 63% compared to a year ago. Among content types, usage of kids services increased the most, showing a 140% rise compared to the previous year. This is attributed to more households engaging in remote childcare by playing content such as "Pinkfong Praise," "Sound Fairy Tales," and "Pororo."
Additionally, usage of games like word chain and nonsense quizzes increased by 128% compared to a year ago. Utterances related to home training rose by 87% year-on-year. This is because more leisure time at home is spent on games and exercise. In particular, utterances ordering exercise-related content such as yoga (113.7%), stretching (102.6%), and Pilates (96.5%) nearly doubled.
