Japan Reports Over 3,000 New COVID-19 Cases Again... Tokyo Records 856 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] On the 29th, Japan recorded over 3,000 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to NHK broadcast data, as of 8 p.m. that day, a total of 3,571 new infections were confirmed nationwide. The daily number of confirmed cases has exceeded 3,000 for the seventh consecutive day since the 12th.
By region, Tokyo reported the highest number with 856 cases. NHK stated, "The highest number for each day of the week has been renewed for 15 consecutive days," and "Among the infected, 68%, or 585 people, have unknown infection routes."
Additionally, a large number of new confirmed cases were also reported in three prefectures adjacent to Tokyo: Kanagawa (395), Saitama (300), and Chiba (216).
As of that day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases nationwide reached 228,059. The number of deaths increased by 44 to a total of 3,382. The number of severe patients receiving intensive care rose by 14 from the previous day to 675.

In Tokyo, the cumulative confirmed cases stand at 57,896, with 618 deaths. The number of severe patients as of that day increased by 3 from the previous day to 84, marking the highest since the emergency declaration was lifted last May.
