Gokseong-gun Confirms Underground Power Line Project Worth 2.5 Billion KRW
Seokgok-ro in Seokgok-myeon Gets Cleaned Up as Power Lines Are Removed.
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 28th, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that Seokgok-ro in Seokgok-myeon has been officially approved as the final target site for the Korea Electric Power Corporation's underground power line project.
The underground power line project is part of the Green New Deal under the Korean New Deal comprehensive plan, aiming to create a safe and pleasant environment by burying power lines underground around school commuting routes and other areas. The project section in Gokseong-gun covers approximately 800 meters from Seokgok Elementary School to Seokgok 5-day Market.
The project is expected to cost a total of 2.5 billion KRW, with KEPCO covering 50%, and the remaining costs shared by national and county funds at 20% and 30%, respectively. Gokseong-gun plans to sign a business agreement with KEPCO and related organizations in the first half of 2021.
Afterward, the detailed design will be completed by December, and construction is scheduled to begin around January 2022.

A county official stated, “By linking the underground power line project with the Seokgok-myeon urban regeneration project, we will transform the main street of Seokgok-ro into a safe and clean road without utility poles,” adding, “We expect this to greatly benefit residents' convenience as well as revitalize the commercial district.”
