40 Years Ago Royal Family Scenes Captured by Pioneer of Cultural Heritage Photography
National Palace Museum, Over 310 Works by Late Artist Han Seokhong Released Online
The works of the late photographer Han Seok-hong (1940?2015), who is regarded as a pioneer in cultural heritage photography, will be made available today (28th) through the National Palace Museum's website. Among approximately 490 royal cultural heritage and palace pavilion photographic films donated by Han's family since last year, about 310 have been selected. These were taken around the 1980s to 1990s and have been digitized after a selection process. The subjects include royal paintings, crafts, astronomy, science-related royal cultural heritage, and palace pavilions. The condition of the artifacts at the time of shooting, as well as the poor cultural heritage management environment?so poor that there was not even a dedicated photography studio?can be glimpsed. Anyone can freely download and use the images. An official stated, "This will be a meaningful opportunity to share precious cultural heritage materials with the public."
