Hyundai Motor Hosts Grandmaster Selection Tournament... Selects 14 Outstanding Engineers
HMCP Highest Grade 'Level 4' Certification Awarded to Engineer
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 24th that it conducted the ‘2020 Grandmaster Selection Competition’ to train technical personnel of its official service partner Bluehands.
The Grandmaster title is awarded to engineers who have been certified at Level 4, the highest technical level among the four grades of Hyundai’s independent technical certification program, the ‘Hyundai Master Certification Program (HMCP).’ HMCP is classified into a total of four levels according to technical competency: Level 1-2 (Technician), Level 3 (Master), and Level 4 (Grandmaster).
The Level 4 technical certification consists of a first-stage written exam and a second-stage descriptive and oral evaluation. Passing the first-stage written exam grants eligibility to take the second-stage descriptive and oral evaluation, which applies a high-difficulty assessment standard verifying overall abilities such as practical fault diagnosis occurring at customer contact points and customer service.
This competition was conducted by administering the second-stage descriptive and oral evaluation to 35 first-stage online passers holding Level 3 technical certification. Ultimately, 14 individuals were awarded the Grandmaster qualification. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second-stage descriptive and oral evaluation was conducted as a one-on-one on-site visit evaluation where evaluators visited Bluehands, and for the oral evaluation, candidates recorded their answers to questions on tablets and submitted them to evaluators to enable non-face-to-face assessment.
The evaluation items comprised a comprehensive assessment of understanding and fault diagnosis and customer service across eight areas: convenience devices, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), eco-friendly vehicles, AVN (Audio, Video, Navigation), body and electrical circuit analysis, chassis, vehicle communication, and Genesis-specific specifications.
Engineers selected as Grandmasters receive a plaque certifying their status as top technical experts, uniform patches, and business cards. The plaque is displayed in the Bluehands customer lounge to boost engineers’ pride and enhance customer trust in service quality.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has introduced online live video evaluations for the HMCP Level 3 certification exam. Candidates connect to a computer and complete identity verification through facial recognition using a monitor, webcam, or smartphone, while supervisors conduct real-time remote monitoring via video during the exam.
