Yoo Sang-beom Files Constitutional Complaint Against Revised Corruption Investigation Office Act... "Nullifying Veto Power is Unconstitutional"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the People Power Party, and the "Lawyers for Human Rights and Unification of Korea" (Hanbyeon) announced on the 23rd that they will file a constitutional complaint, claiming that the amended Public Officials Corruption Investigation Unit Act, which relaxed the resolution requirements for the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), is unconstitutional.
In a press release on the same day, Representative Yoo stated, "President Moon Jae-in violated the spirit of the Constitution and undermined the rule of law by promulgating the amendment that nullifies the opposition party's veto power over the recommendation of the CIO head candidate and allows lawyers without practical experience in trials, investigations, or inquiries to be appointed as CIO prosecutors."

Representative Yoo said, "Through the amendment, the all-powerful CIO has excluded the Prosecutor General, the highest investigative agency under the Constitution, and monopolized investigations related to the administration," adding, "This has led to a constitutional denial and destruction of the rule of law that threatens judicial independence under the pretext of investigation and prosecution rights over judges and prosecutors."
