7 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Among Pastor's Family and Congregants in Goheung
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Despite Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do's administrative efforts to contain the spread, 7 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed within two days, raising concerns about the expansion of community transmission.
According to Goheung-gun on the 23rd, since the first confirmed case on the 10th, community infections had remained at 2 cases, but on the 22nd, a pastor of a certain church and his family of five, including his children, tested positive.
They have been classified as Jeonnam cases number 520 to 524 and are receiving treatment after being transferred to Gangjin Medical Center.
Goheung-gun conducted diagnostic tests targeting church members who attended services led by the pastor and village residents, resulting in two additional village residents testing positive early that morning. With a total of 7 confirmed cases at once, tension is mounting.
These additional cases have not yet been assigned classification numbers.
The church pastor showed cold symptoms starting from the 17th and is known to have recently met with a pastor couple who tested positive in Suncheon.
Starting from the morning of the same day, Goheung-gun began mass testing of about 240 students and staff at two elementary schools attended by the pastor’s children, and the church has completed disinfection.
Health authorities have set up screening clinics at four locations including schools and the village to conduct diagnostic tests, and 39 local kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools will switch to remote classes until the 24th.
