[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] In Gyeongbuk Province, where sporadic secondary infections were occurring in various places, the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is rapidly increasing.
Following the 20th, when the daily number of confirmed cases suddenly surged to the 40s for the first time in about nine months since early March (48 cases), on the 21st, a whopping 58 people (excluding 1 imported case) were confirmed positive in a cluster.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 21st, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk area increased by 59 from the previous day to 2,052 (including 109 imported cases).
The new confirmed cases occurred in Gyeongsan with 24 cases, Andong 10 cases, Gyeongju 8 cases, Gumi 7 cases, Yeongju 5 cases, Pohang 2 cases, and Gimcheon, Uiseong, and Goryeong with 1 case each.
Among the 24 new confirmed cases in Gyeongsan City, 2 were contacts of confirmed cases related to Daegu Gwangjin Central Church. Another 13 were contacts of the confirmed cases on the 19th (Gyeongsan cases 725 and 726). Six others were contacts of previous confirmed cases, and 3 had unknown infection routes.
Among the 10 new confirmed cases in Andong City, 5 were contacts related to a certain church in the city, and 4 were contacts of a confirmed case in Uiseong area on the previous day (Uiseong case 46). Additionally, 1 resident who had contact with a resident confirmed on the 11th (Andong case 62) was also confirmed positive.
Among the 8 new confirmed cases in Gyeongju City, 7 were all confirmed positive through chain infections, and the remaining 1 was an imported case who entered from Europe on the 17th.
All 7 new confirmed cases in Gumi City were contacts of Gumi case 131, confirmed on the 20th. The 5 new confirmed cases in Yeongju City were contacts of confirmed cases related to religious facilities (Yeongju cases 28 to 30).
Among the new confirmed cases in Pohang City, 1 was a contact of a confirmed case on the previous day (Pohang case 181), and the other had an unknown infection route.
In Gimcheon City and Goryeong County, 1 person each was confirmed positive through contact with previous confirmed cases, and in Uiseong County, 1 person with an unknown infection route was confirmed positive.
In Gyeongsangbuk-do, over the past week, 226 local residents (excluding imported cases) have tested positive, resulting in a weekly daily average of 32.3 confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, in Gyeongbuk, after the daily confirmed cases peaked at 122 on March 6, the highest in the province, the number dropped to 31 on March 8, but since showing the same daily confirmed cases of 31 on December 17, there has been no sign of decline.
